Women Mentors Sought For San Diego Female Veterans
“Growing Women Veteran Population Needs Support of Mentors”

San Diego – Studies show that women who have served in the United States military face far greater challenges than their male counterparts when they return to civilian life. Too often, they are flying under the radar when it comes to the assistance they need.

For this reason, the National Veterans Transition Services, Inc. (NVTSI) aka REBOOT is conducting a all women’s REBOOT Workshop in San Diego funded by Wells Fargo March 23 through April 10. The three-week program is designed to address the unique needs of female veterans and the Workshops have a record of successfully addressing the personal, lifestyle and career transitional issues of separating military personnel and veterans.

A key component of the program will be an opportunity for the female veteran participants to benefit from the one-on-one mentoring from a successful local community leader.

REBOOT’s Women Mentor Program
Workforce research reinforces the fundamental value of mentoring and the measurable impact of one-on-one coaching. The REBOOT Mentor model is designed to engage a cross section of veteran and civilian mentors who provide insights, advice and encouragement to steer women veterans and military/veteran spouses on individualized courses of action in the civilian workplace. Program participants enter the REBOOT Mentoring Program as members seeking access to tools, resources or one-to-one confidential guidance, with the flexibility to change their status as needed/desired.

REBOOT’s Women Mentor Program connects Female Veteran Mentees with Mentors for a year-long mentorship. Paired based on their career objectives and professional experience, Mentors and Mentees define the goals of their mentorship together and focus on a successful transition from the military to the civilian workforce.

What is Required of a REBOOT Women Veteran Mentor?

Attendance at a 3-hour Mentor Training Class, which includes overviews of military culture and the Reboot Workshop on: Saturday, April 04 form 9AM to Noon.

Attendance at the REBOOT Workshop graduation, to be held on Friday, April 10th.

“Growing Women Veteran Population Needs Help, REBOOT Answers the Call”

San Diego, March 7, 2015 – As Military Women’s History Month gets underway in March, the National Veterans Transition Services, Inc. (NVTSI) aka REBOOT is collaborating with large corporations and state departments of veterans affairs to increase access to REBOOT’s unique 3-week workshop, designed to address issues women veterans face.

Thanks to its sponsors, NVTSI will conduct 3 all-women veteran REBOOT Workshops during the month of March:

March 9 to 27 –  Los Angeles; sponsored by Ford Motor Company
March 16 to April 3 – Wixom, MI; sponsored by  Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA)
March 23 to April 10 – San Diego; sponsored by  Wells Fargo

Each workshop accommodates 25 women veterans who will attend free classes 5 days a week. Classes focus on personal well-being, employment and career, achieving one’s goals, plus a professional makeover session.

Women Veterans Face Additional Challenges – Growing Issues
A report by the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) in 2014 found that the country’s nearly 300,000 female veterans face greater challenges than their male counterparts as they reenter civilian life. Women veterans are more likely to be single parents and more likely to report stressful relationships than male veterans. Women veterans often face gaps in medical care regarding female health issues, and report higher rates of unemployment and homelessness.

” These brave women have served and sacrificed to defend our freedom, and yet there are few programs that address their unique needs as they return to the home front and to their families,”said Jim Vella, president, Ford Motor Company Fund and Community Services. “It’s another opportunity to say thank you, while also helping them make a successful transition.”

” REBOOT helps veterans do so much more than transition out of the armed forces -it helps them transform their lives and puts them on a path to success,”MVAA Director Jeff Barnes said. “Women are the fastest growing group within the veteran population, and female veterans face a number of unique obstacles both during and after their time in uniform. By providing these women with training sessions designed especially for them, we can equip them with the skills and training they need to achieve their goals and be successful in their civilian lives.”

” Wells Fargo is proud to support our nation’s returning veterans and their families,”said Celia Lanning, Wells Fargo Greater San Diego Region President. “We believe in investing in programs like REBOOT that make a significant impact on the lives of those that have served our country. The women veteran workshops provide a unique opportunity for women veterans to continue to grow and empower themselves as they transition into civilian life .”

As a growing number of women leave the military for an uncertain civilian future there is a growing need for programs like REBOOT. The Workshop is based around how we think and how our thoughts impact every facet of our lives. It demonstrates how we let habits; attitudes and beliefs stand in the way of releasing our inner potential. It also reveals how our beliefs and expectations about our families, our futures, and ourselves are directly related to our current realities. REBOOT has proven to be 97% successful in helping women veterans achieve their goals.

“We designed this program to meet the unique needs of women, and the training builds upon the participants’military training, skills and experience,” said Maurice Wilson, co-founder, REBOOT Workshop and retired Navy Master Chief Petty Officer. “Our workshop addresses the professional, social and personal aspects of life, along with connections to community resources and mentors who could also be of help.”

Got Your Six

Got Your Six Chris Marvin

Every day, Got Your 6 works to ensure that veterans are perceived as leaders and assets in communities across the country. When we empower veterans to continue serving at home, we strengthen communities nationwide. Today, we’re going behind the scenes of Got Your 6 to learn more about its managing director, who has made this work his mission.

Chris Marvin is a fourth-generation U.S. Army combat veteran. He served more than seven years as an aviation officer and Black Hawk helicopter pilot. In 2004, Chris was severely wounded in a helicopter crash near the Afghan-Pakistan border. He broke his foot, both legs, his right arm; shattered all the bones on the right side of his face; and did severe damage to both knees, both hips, and both shoulders.

Over the next four years, Chris underwent 10 major surgeries and thousands of hours of physical therapy. During his recovery, Chris gained a unique perspective on how Americans view veterans. He was inspired to take steps to ensure that the cultural narrative on veterans is not one of pity or charity, but one of leadership and empowerment. For Chris, the best therapy was being challenged to continue serving, and he found that other veterans could find renewed purpose through volunteering, education, and community building.

This led Chris to found Got Your 6—a national campaign to empower returning veterans to strengthen communities. It became Chris’ mission to reach all Americans with the idea that veterans are trained leaders, team builders, and problem solvers. Because of Chris’s leadership and the work of Got Your 6’s partners, the way Americans perceive veterans today is shifting.

Chris’ story embodies the Got Your 6 message. Initially a major setback, his experience in combat, injuries, and recovery ultimately placed his life on a new trajectory with a renewed purpose.

Meet the rest of the Got Your 6 team! And be sure to stay up-to-date with what we’re working on now.

Fellman stated, “The filmmakers, led by Clint Eastwood, and cast, led by Bradley Cooper and Sienna Miller, have created a gripping drama with a rare insight into the toll of war that has resonated with audiences in almost every demographic.  We congratulate them not only on the film’s box office success but on generating one of the most talked about films of this or any year.”
